Dell Starts New Communications Division

It looks like Dell is going to get more serious in the smartphone scene. Aside from the recent Mini 3i phone, Dell has come up with a new communications division which will head up development of smartphones, along with other devices. The division will be headed by Ron Garriques, previously from Motorola. This division will also most likely be the one to oversee the last-stage development of the Streak, Dell’ Android-powered MID (mobile Internet device).

Dell: Dell Inc. is one of largest technology corporations in the world. Michael Dell started the company in 1984, and it sold computers built from stock components. Previously named PCs Limited, the company created the "Turbo PC," the company's first computer. In 1988, the company changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation. Dell sells personal computers, servers, data storage devices, network switches, software, and computer peripherals. Dell acquired computer hardware company Alienware in 2006, and Perot Systems, an information technology services provider, in 2009. Dell is also considered as the third largest PC vendors in the world, next to HP and Lenovo (as of 12/30/2013).
