Weapons manufacturer FN Herstal has come up with a rather interesting device, a “Black Box” for weapons, which can detect and track all sorts of information related to the weapon that it’s attached to. Information such as number of shots, burst rates and burst lengths, firing sequences, stoppages and even ID and location data (when coupled with GPS). The unit comes with a non-replaceable battery that has a reported service life of 10-years and a recording capacity of 100,000 rounds. It will certainly be interesting to see the cost of implementing such technology into our military.
