Basically, it takes a whole lot of providence and grace to walk away from a helicopter crash unscathed, but why court disaster when you can take precautionary steps yourself by including an airbag-type system in a helicopter? That’s what NASA has been testing all this while, developing a shock absorber system that mounts from the bottom of the helicopter to take up the force of the impact. Tests have shown that a small helicopter being dropped from a height of 35 feet, did not result in what is normally a severe or fatal crash, but its crash test dummies within “suffered” from minor injuries. Guess the Army could make do with such technology, pronto!
