The Motorola La Jolla, also known as “The Jewel” in Spanish, is surprisingly ironic considering the La Jolla has been targeted to be an affordable Android-powered cellphone. Makes us wonder what kind of jewel Motorola is hinting at with this – perhaps the superb bargain type which offers unprecedented functionality and capability at rock bottom prices? We do know that the handset will come with a WQVGA resolution display, a Qualcomm 7201A processor (528 MHz ARM11), a MAX7359 keyboard and Kionix accelerometer. Word also has it that the La Jolla will most probably be the first Android-powered clamshell as well.

Android Android is mobile operating system from Google. The software was originally built by a company called Android Inc, that was purchased by Google in 2005. From its modest debuts, Android has become a powerhouse that powers not only smartphones and tablet, but a host of other less high-profile devices and gadgets. Although Android is not a community-driven project, Google does release the source code as open-source under the Apache license.
