It seems that O2 Germany has confirmed that the Palm Pre webOS 1.3.1 ROM has a bug affecting SMS text messages. This latest version of the OS seems to interpret some special characters wrong, which results in the SMS being switched to Unicode (which has a max of 70 characters). If users aren’t paying attention to the SMS text counter when this occurs, the text message might end up being broken into multiple messages, and thus the user will be billed for more than 1 message. There isn’t any word on whether this affects the CDMA Palm Pre and Palm Pixi which should be running the same firmware. Are any of you webOS users out there experiencing such problems?
