It seems like Twitter co-founder, Jack Dorsey, isn’t the only one who thinks that the iPhone would make a great platform to process payments. Not too long after introducing Square, VeriFone announced PAYware Mobile, which is a combination of an iPhone/iPod touch app, and a swipe card reader, allowing merchants to accept and process credit cards on the go. This product is expected to ship in January, and will be free with a 2-year contract with VeriFone, though there isn’t any word on pricing just yet. One thing folks might want to take note is that Square seems to be aimed more for ad-hoc usage, folks who don’t have merchant accounts, but VeriFone is looking at the larger retail stores. So will there be room for everyone? We’ll have to wait and see. Check out a video on it here.
