By jeeves, the folks behind the next-generation Secure Digital (SD) memory card standard are certainly milking the format for all it is worth, as SD Specification Version 4.00 (provisional name) is tipped to be ready for release next year, relying on low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) to help boost the max data transfer rate on the read read/write bus to a whopping 300MB/s compared to current performance which tops out at 104MB/s. Apart from that, this next-gen standard will see a new pin added for serial transfer, although it will maintain similar external card dimensions to ensure backward compatibility.
