China has achieved another world’s first with the largest solar-powered office building in the world. It comes with a fan-like roof which resembles an ancient sun dial, boasting exhibition centers, research facilities, meeting and convention spaces and a hotel within which obtains their juice from hundreds of solar panels that adorn its roof. That’s not the only green aspect of the building as it boasts other energy- and resource-saving innovations including advanced wall insulation and roofing which further reduces 30% of its energy consumption compared to the national average. Interestingly enough, the Sun Dial building’s external structure uses but 1% of the steel compared to what the Bird’s Nest required.
