WD Gives An Additional 11% Storage

Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, it seems that we can never have enough storage space on our computers, and as such, it’s great news to hear that Western Digital has developed a technique that will provide us with more usable space out of a given hard drive capacity. The technique, called Advanced Format, will give between 7 to 11 percent increase in usable storage, which is great. This is achieved by creating much larger 4KB sectors that use one set of each header, instead of using a single Sync/DAM header and ECC (error correction) block for each sector. If it gives more storage space, we’re certainly not going to complain, right?
