Boxee, the popular online video and TV streaming service has announced that it will be adding a payment system to its streaming platform. The system should be launched over the summer and will allow users one-click access to paid content, which will include TV shows, TV channels and movies. Users will be offered a either a pay-per-view or subscription based model. Of course, in the end, content is the key, and Boxee is busy courting content partners, hoping that they will be willing to make their content available to Boxee users, and the best part (for them) is that they’ll be allowed to package and price the content according to their preference. Boxee will be looking to make a small cut from each purchased item, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody. If you’re a current Boxee user, you don’t have to worry about shelling out money at the moment, as the company has stated that the paid content is entirely optional, and Boxee will remain a free service. We saw the Boxee at CES, and were pretty impressed by it.
