Guess the day is dawning when a Blu-ray player is able to handle a whole slew of formats, just like how your generic DVD player was able to play all sorts of discs back during the DVD heydays. We’re talking about the Oppo BDP-80 Blu-ray player here, where it retails for a mere $289 while being able to handle Blu-ray discs, DVDs, SACDs, MKVs and MP3s among others. You won’t get all the features that its more technologically advanced sibling, the Oppo BDP-83 has, since it will lack 24p DVD conversion and in/out IR ports, but at that price, its functionality and versatile capabilities are hard to beat.
