Sil-bot targets the elderly

KIST’s Center for Intelligent Robotics (CIR) is currently working on a robot for the elderly, known as the Sil-bot. This robot comes with a cute disposition, although we find the appendage sticking out at the bottom right between its legs rather disturbing. The robot is capable of detecting its owners voice within a 3-meter radius, moving towards that direction while simple conversational capabilities have also been thrown in so that the elderly won’t feel that lonely in their homes. This robot boasts stereo vision to help it move about the home without bumping into anyone, but the current $34,800 price tag makes it a prohibitive purchase especially to pensioners who have to make do with a minimal amount each month, but logic dictates the cost should come down with mass production.
