3D technology looks set to become mainstream in the near future, and the release of the HDMI 1.4 spec to the general public will certainly help a great bunch. Since most manufacturers are adopting active shutter glasses for their 3D wizardry, at least the products on the market will be using similar methods, minimizing compatibility issues. The best part is that the HDMI Licensing group has opened up the 3D portion of the HDMI 1.4 spec, so even non-licensees will be able to make their products compatible. If that’s the case, expect the folks over in China to begin making a bunch of them, and sell them as clones or even claim to be the original.
