Microsoft rumored to purchase Research In Motion

This is purely a rumor, boys and girls, but if it is true, then it could possibly be one of the biggest acquisition stories to date – Microsoft buying up Research In Motion (RIM). After all, Microsoft currently needs to get into the hardware business so that it will have better control of the entire user experience, but for Microsoft to purchase RIM? That sounds just impossible, considering RIM has a pretty good gig going on with their line of BlackBerrys worldwide at the moment where smartphones are concerned. Microsoft: Microsoft is the company behind software like Windows, Microsoft Office and hardware like the Xbox and Kinect. The company was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. MS-DOS was the product that propelled Microsoft towards success, but it is Windows and Office that made it what it is today. Microsoft is currently engaged in a number of projects, including Windows 8, Windows Phone, Xbox, Office and the Azure cloud computing platform. the large majority of desktop computers run on Windows.

RIM: RIM is the acronym for Research In Motion, the Canadian company behind the BlackBerry brand. RIM was founded in the mid 90s by Mike Lazaridis and with Jim Balsillie and went IPO (Initial Public Offering) in 1998. Its claim to fame was to make mobile email really effective and enterprises quickly adopted its devices and associated software and services which were highly lucrative. With the rise of iOS and Android devices, the BlackBerry franchise bumped into trouble and its decline prompted RIM to take a radical step by overhauling its BlackBerry operating system (OS) completely with QNX. The first version of the QNX BlackBerry OS is BlackBerry 10 or BB10.
