Motorola Devour To Sport The Same CPU As Palm Pixi

If you’ve been eyeing the Motorola Devour, we’ve got a little tidbit of information that might pique your interest. It seems that the Devour will be powered by a Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, which is the same processor used by the Palm Pixi and BlackBerry Curve 8530. The MSM7627 comes from the ARM11 family, and sports a 600MHz application processor, which isn’t all that shabby. It’s also been said that the Devour might be shipping with Android 1.6, though there is also speculation that it might be powered by Android 2.1 by the time it’s launched. In case you’ve forgotten, specifications of the Motorola Devour include:

  • 3.1-inch HVGA (480 x 320) capacitive display
  • 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 processor
  • 512MB flash ROM, 256MB RAM
  • 3-megapixel camera
  • Android 1.6 with MotoBlur
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • GPS
  • Wi-Fi
  • microSD card expansion

ARM ARM usually refers to the company ARM holdings, which is now famous for being behind the processor designs of the large majority (some say 98%) of the smartphones in the world. The ARM Architecture is a set of instructions based on the idea of RISC (reduced instruction set computer) which says that reducing the number of instructions to the most basic enables faster execution of each instruction. ARM Licenses the instruction set or complete processor design to its clients, which includes Nvidia, Qualcomm, Marvell, Freescale, TI, ST-Ericsson and many others.
