Pentax will be replacing its long serving X70 with the X90, where this ultrazoom camera will sport a 26x lens (26-676mm equivalent) while relying on an “intelligent zoom” in its software to achieve 162.5x (4,225mm). According to Pentax, most of the typical degradation in image quality is avoided, although the company did not mention any obvious sacrifices made to achieve the record-setting distance. This 12-megapixel shooter relies on image stabilization through sensor shifting, and can record movies at up to 720p with its special anti-shake movie mode that ensures your videos remain blur-free as much as possible. There is no word on availability or pricing for the X90, so stay tuned.
