Google Offering Free Nexus One Or Motorola Droid To Android Devs

Looks like quite a few Android developers are going to be getting a new phone soon, as Google has sent out emails informing developers of a new Device Seeding Program for top Android Market Developers. So if you’re a developer and have an application with a 3.5 star rating or higher and 5000 unique downloads, you qualify to receive a free Motorola Droid or Nexus One, though you won’t be able to pick which one, as it’ll be decided depending on your country of origin and other factors. While many folks out there are worried that this is a scam, an official confirmation from a Google spokesperson should ease those worries, as it reads:

“A thriving developer community is an important part of creating a better mobile experience for users around the world. We hope that offering devices to developers will make it easier for them to create and test great applications. This is inline with other efforts to support developers, which also includes our Android Developer Labs World Tour and our upcoming participation at the Game Developers Conference.”
