Intel Expands Atom Platform To Storage Devices

Intel has launched its first Intel Atom processor-based platform which is optimized for networked home and small office storage devices. This platform will consist of the single-core Atom D410 processor or the dual-core D510 processor, coupled with the Intel 82801IR I/O Controller. According to Intel, there will be up to 50% power reduction and improved performance from this setup, compared to the previous generation of Atom processors. If you like nitty gritty details, the platform will feature six PCI Express lanes, 12 USB 2.0 ports, a port multiplier function, eSATA ports and also supports Windows Home Server, as well as Linux operating systems.
