Solarmer Energy had previously managed to eke out a record efficiency of nearly eight percent from its plastic solar cells, but now according to the company’s Managing Director, the company is on target to reach 10 percent efficiency by the end of the year, which will come as a nice improvement over the previous record of 8 percent. Of course, they’re not only looking to ten percent efficiency, in the long run, they expect to achieve twelve to fifteen percent efficiencies, as it’s believed that the cells would need to be more than fifteen percent efficient in order to compete in the solar power market. Considering that solar power is certainly going to be an important part of our future, we certainly hope that they get great results in improving solar technology. After all, we’re looking forward to our cars being charged while they’re baking in the sun everyday.
