steampunk-turtle
Are you in love with Steampunk stuff? Well, how about this steampunk-ish turtle? It’s a mechanically stuffed turtle which looks more or less normal, until you open its shell, where you’ll find all sorts of gears inside it, making it look like something from another planet. It does look more than a little cruel, though.

Steampunk is defined as a sub-genre of science fiction which prominently features steam powered machinery primarily in a setting that’s inspired by the industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. There’s a vibrant community which is very much into this sub-genre, some individuals even modify objects in the steampunk style.

As far as this turtle is concerned that particular individual is Lisa Black. At first it may look like taxidermy gone awry but take a good look and you’ll see how it truly pays tribute to one of the oldest species on this planet. Then again turtles themselves have robotic attributes. They move slowly but with precision and are quick to disappear in their shells if they sense movement around them.

Even though it is an actual turtle that was used for this project apparently it did get its fair share of slow moving and grass-eating before being turned into a steampunk sculpture. Basically the idea is to depict the dynamics of life at a mechanical level which it very well does.
