
Apple could very well be working on a spanking new proprietary cable which will be able to transmit both USB 3.0 and DisplayPort data simultaneously, and should it actually roll out, it will go some way in reducing cable clutter where future Macs are concerned, enabling easier video output with portable devices as well. The patent applications from Apple for a “Reduced Size Multi-Pin Male Plug Connector” and “Reduced Size Multi-Pin Female Receptacle Connector” are touted to achieve a higher degree of functionality with greater data transfer rates with a reduction in cable connector form factor.
