Bluetooth 4.0 core specifications finalized

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has just finalized the core specification for Bluetooth 4.0, where it will bring together all the previous wireless standards while focusing mainly on low-power use – after all, devices that require a miniscule amount of data (take a pedometer, for example), is able to run for months on end on a single battery charge whenever it engages the low energy profile. Expect the full integration of low power to be due before June is over, while finished devices equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 are tipped to ship later this year.
