They say that we get our message across to the other person through verbal as well as non-verbal cues, with more weightage placed on the latter. Well, this doesn’t bode too well for the visually impaired, since they cannot see the face and body language of the person they are talking to. A novel thesis project at UmeÃ¥ University in Sweden could come in handy, resulting in a form of Braille codification for emotions that relies on a tactile display alongside a webcam, where it will interpret the emotion displayed by their guest, only to inform the blind person of such emotion through the use of a tactile display. We can’t wait for this to come soon enough – how about throwing in a voice analyzer while they’re at it?
