
While many people weren’t entirely sure what Google was planning to do with Gizmo5 when it acquired the VoIP company, word is going around that Google is currently doing some internal testing on a desktop version of Google Voice, which might make the reasons behind the earlier acquisition clearer. If Google does release a desktop version of Google Voice, which means that you’ll be able to make and receive calls from your computer on the same number that rings on all your other devices, it’ll probably be a good indication that Google is planning to get serious about the VoIP business. Will such a desktop program worry the likes of Skype, or will the king of VoIP not even bat an eyelid?
