LOLA Robot Is Able To Detect And Avoid Obstacles

Robot technology is always cool, and now the folks over at the Technical University of Munich and the Institute of Technology Autonomous Systems are developing a robot called LOLA. This robot has been six-years in the making, and is currently able to plan its own walking trajectory through a room in real time using image data. That being said, the robot seems to need some serious number crunching power, as it’s hooked up to three computers that do all the thinking for it. With all that computing power, LOLA is able to detect obstacles in its way and modify its path as necessary. The icing on the cake is the fact that LOLA is capable of running, something thatvery few other robots out there are capable of doing. Check out a video of LOLA in action (albeit not running) in the video after the jump.
