Pro Tech Smart One ankle unit heads for the FCC

The folks over at the FCC have already taken a look at the Smart One ankle unit from Pro Tech, which means it could be slapped around the ankles of felonies Stateside pretty soon if approved. After all, this live tracking device relies on a sensitive, low power GPS receiver, not to mention getting the help of a GSM/GPRS module that is capable of transmitting location information to the base. This tracking device is smart enough to support a whole range of rules including exclusion and inclusion zones, as well as schedules among others, where the data is stored within the device itself. This would mean the ankle unit can warn the offender concerning a possible violation even in the event where there are no wireless signals within the vicinity. Other features comprise of communication via LED lights and vibration, soft key for offender acknowledgment, support for multiple tracking technologies including GPS, and an advanced motion sensor.
