Rumor: New iPad To Use OLED Display Technology

This is still very much a rumor, but according to Digitimes, Apple has already started development on its second generation iPad, and if the rumors are true, Apple will be using an OLED display in the future, which is also said to be the same tech used for the upcoming iPhone 4G. Currently the cost of OLED panels are still quite high, but with many major panel makers investing more in OLED production, prices of such panels are expected to drop, making them more affordable and suitable for the iPad. In case you were wondering, based on current prices, a 9.7-inch LTPS LCD panel costs about $60-70, while a 9.7-inch AMOLED display will set you back about $500, which certainly is a huge price difference.
