Last week, Verizon and Skype have officially confirmed that a version of Skype mobile that supports 3G will be available for a selected number of Verizon phones. I met with the Skype Mobile team during an event today and Dan Chastney, the product manager ,showed me a demo of the application running on the Motorola DEVOUR. Check out the video.
The app is launching on BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition and Tour 9630 smartphones, as well as DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS by HTC and the Motorola DEVOUR. More phones will be supported later.
With Skype Mobile, Verizon’s customers with data enabled compatible phones will be able to place Skypes calls to other Skype client er the Verizon Wirelss’s voice network for free, and call regular phone lines via SkypeOut minutes with no additional fees from the carrier.
