Western Digital’s latest Velociraptor VR600 hard drive was built on a SATA 6Gbps interface, where it doubles capacity platters albeit featuring a 10,000RPM spindle speed. Capable of storing anywhere from 150GB to 600GB worth of data, it comes equipped with 32MB cache and will come in both 2.5″ and 3.5″ form factors, although it isn’t advised to see action in notebooks since the spec sheet claims it “consumes less idle power and uses similar active power as the previous generation WD VelociRaptor”. Guess hard drives still have some legs left before it is well and truly buried.
