The iPhone’s unique form factor is instantly recognizable by most people nowadays, and Apple was smart enough to apply for the patent on the iPhone 3G form factor, which has now been granted by the USPTO. The patent describes it as “a new, original and ornamental design for an electronic device”, which includes computers, portable or handheld electronic devices and media players etc. The interesting thing about the patent application is that there doesn’t seem to be a home button on the reference design. Maybe we’ll be looking to an iPhone that uses a touch-sensitive home button in the future?
