It’s actually quite interesting to see how Google and Apple seem to mirror each others’ actions. After Google acquired 3D desktop manager BumpTop, a patent filing from Apple has surfaced showing that Apple is looking to the possibility of 3D widgets on its OS dashboard in the future. These 3D widgets would be able to provide different features, attributes or functionalities depending on which side of the widget you click on. Users will be able to lift and rotate the widgets in order to expose these functions. Such a design would probably be quite popular considering that everybody is moving towards 3D nowadays.
