We’ve touched on Intel’s Light Peak technology before, a connection that can deliver transfer rates of 10Gbits/sec in both directions over an optical link. In order to showcase the technology, Intel has made a USB cable that also integrates Light Peak, demonstrating it delivering two different HD streams to two different displays over one cable at the same time without any lag. Laptops will need a 12mm chip to be installed in them before they’re able to decode the signals. Light Peak is planned to be available to manufacturers towards the end of 2010, so we’re hoping to see it mass produced in products in the next few years.
