While most of us already password protect our wireless networks, there are still a great many folks out there who don’t think it’s essential. Now it seems that folks in Germany might have to pay special attention to the issue of wireless security, as a court in Germany has decided that the owner of a Wi-Fi connection is partially responsible if the connection is used for illegal purposes, regardless of whether the owner knows what’s going on or not. So if you leave your Wi-Fi connection open, it’s a form of negligence, punishable by a fine. Ouch. Granted the fine wouldn’t be too great, around $125, but that’s still money that we’d like to keep, right? Do you think that such fines should be put in place, or are you against this?
