Word is going around that Intel has informed its resellers not to expect its upcoming 6-core Xeon 5600 chips in significant quantities until the end of spring. While there wasn’t any reason given, speculation is that the recent shortage of the 32nm Intel processors has affected Intel’s stock of Xeons as well. If this is true, it would go some way to explaining the lack of an update for high-end workstations like Apple’s Mac Pro. In case you haven’t been following it, the Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since March last year, which is quite some time for a cutting edge computer to be left out. Are you looking forward to getting a new workstation powered by Intel’s Xeon 5600 chip?
