OWC Unveils 480GB Mercury Extreme Pro 2.5 inch SSD

Two of the most common reasons why we don’t all use solid state drives (SSD) in our laptops is normally the price or the small capacity. Now Other World Computing (OWC) is hoping to tackle the storage space issue with the unveiling of its 480GB Mercury Extreme Pro SSD, which almost puts this drive on par with the mechanical hard drives in the market in terms of storage offered. This drive is listed as being able to offer up to 285MB/s sustained data rates, no doubt thanks to its SandForce Processor. If you think that 480GB is too much storage for you (who are you trying to kid), this line of SSD also offers 60GB, 120GB and 240GB capacities, which will be going for $220, $340 and $700 respectively. We didn’t forget the 480GB model, though we hope you have deep pockets if you intend to pay the $1,579.99 asking price for it. Is this going on your wish list to Santa?
