Rumor: Apple May Offer MobileMe For Free

While there isn’t any official confirmation on this just yet, word is going around that Apple might be turning MobileMe into a free service, so you won’t have to shell out the usual $99 annual fee. It would be interesting to see if such a move would be related with the possibility of Apple’s upcoming iTunes Live service. The MobileMe service allows subscribers to sync information such as their address book, calendar, email and other information across various devices, not to mention offering users push email. If Apple were to do so, it’ll be interesting to see how Google reacts to it, as the search engine giant is obviously one of the most popular providers of free email and calendar services that can be accessed easily across different computers. Are Apple and Google on collision course with each other again?
