Samsung Announces 8Gb OneNAND Memory Chips

Samsung has announced that they’ve come up with a 30nm-based 8Gb (gigabit) OneNAND chip that can be used in smartphones. Thanks to the single-level-cell (SLC) NAND flash design that is being used here, phone manufacturers are able to handle more data at one go. The 30nm 8Gb OneNAND is 40 percent more efficient than the previous 40nm OneNAND, boasting read and write speeds of 70MB/s and 17MB/s respectively. Mass production of these chips are expected to begin at the end of the month.
