Industrial designer Tyson Steele has come up with the Solar Arch you see here, where this concept aims to cover rural roads which will be able to generate renewable solar energy for off-grid highway lighting. Apart from that, it is touted to supplement electricity demands in neighboring areas, and could come in useful in places where there is still a lack of basic infrastructure such as deep in the jungles. There is also a two-fold function, as the Solar Arch can help reduce icing problems in winter while keeping roads cool during summer. All designs have complied with AASHTO Standards for US interstate bridges and passageways, offering a ground clearance of over 18 feet and has a width of 40 feet with each section 10 feet long. Now this is one concept that we would definitely love to see materialize sooner rather than later due to the benefits offered.
