So we’ve seen BigBelly Solar’s public trash cans that run completely off solar power to compact trash, but how about this for an upgrade? They are now equipped with the ability to send text messages to city workers whenever they are filled to the brim and need to be emptied lest frustrated passers-by with trash fall into temptation of tossing that piece of ice cream wrapper onto the street. A few of these puppies are already seeing action in Lodi parks, California, Santa Cruz, Boston and Philadelphia. A “twittering” trash can of sorts – how cool is that.
