Apple Responds To iPhone 4 Death Grip Complaints

The Internet is awash with complaints about the iPhone 4′s cellular signal being lowered when you grip the phone with your hand, with some folks are even going so far as to call it the Death Grip. It seems to be a troublesome enough issue that Apple has seen fit to issue a statement, which basically tells users not to cover both sides of the black strip on the metal band when they hold the phone, or use one of the many available cases. Interestingly enough, users are reporting that the cases do help, so it does seem like it’s an issue with physically touching the antenna. The statement from Apple reads:

“Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone,” Apple said. “If you ever experience this on your Phone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.”
