Canon’s recently published patent application points toward an interesting new method that will see action for altering exposure values at the pixel level, which in turn enables Canon to produce a camera which is capable of capturing a much wider dynamic range using a mere solitary image. In layman’s terms, folks who want to obtain real dynamic range out of one’s images can do so without making them look negatively surrealistic. Good to see that image quality in digital cameras is not just limited to the number of megapixels one squeezes in. How soon will such technology see action in our digital cameras down the road, only Canon can tell.
