Some interesting news regarding HTC and its upcoming batch of mobile phones has surfaced. Turns out that the Taiwanese company will be switching many, if not all, of its mobile phones that use AMOLED displays to LCDs due to a supply shortage at Samsung. To make matters worse, Samsung is using much of the available AMOLED supply for its own Galaxy S mobile phone, which doesn’t leave HTC with much choice but to source for alternative solutions. As it stands, the HTC Desire, Droid Incredible, and Nexus One will be switching to Sony’s high-grade Super TFT LCD, which hopefully will be good enough to dampen any perceived loss in quality. Such a situation would also explain why Apple was reluctant to use an AMOLED display for its iPhone 4, sticking to an IPS-based LCD instead. Do you care whether the display on your mobile phone is an AMOLED or LCD?
