Orange UK is currently studying the potential of a new service with a select sample group across southern England, where they wll be able to enjoy dramatically increased sound quality in voice calls. In order to achieve such results, HD Voice will rely on a wider range of sound (50–7000 Hz) compared against traditional voice (300–3400 Hz) thanks to the use of the Wideband Adaptive Multi-Rate code (WB-AMR). Just how high do you place voice quality when it comes to making phone calls? Most folks would be happy with not experiencing dropped voice calls, but guess there is always room for further improvement, and HD Voice could very well be a glimpse of the future. A full nationwide rollout in the UK is expected to happen before the summer is over, which by then England should have brought home the World Cup if Messrs Rooney & Co start getting their act together.
