Sony Develops 1.2kWh-class Energy Storage Module

Battery technology is always an interesting subject and now Sony has announced its latest 1.2kWh-class energy storage module. The most notable feature of this new module is its use of li-ion rechargeable batteries that have cathodes made from a material called “olivine-type lithium iron phosphate cell”. The benefit of this, according to the press release, is that it allows high power output, long-life performance and excellent thermal stability. It can be used as a supplement to stationary power supplies for data servers or as a backup power supply for mobile phone wireless base stations, just to name a few applications. It measures in at 431 x 420 x 79mm, and weighs in at 0.17kg, while offering a max output of 2.5kW.
