
This new era in global technology leadership will only happen if there is adequate spectrum available to support the forthcoming myriad of wireless devices, networks, and applications that can drive the new economy. To do so, we can use our American ingenuity to wring abundance from scarcity, by finding ways to use spectrum more efficiently. [Presidential Memorandum]
It’s hard to argue that mobile applications don’t make us more productive as we can access data from anywhere — and take action on the spot. Now, if we could get better networks, we would without a doubt be even more productive (actually, less dropped calls would help too!). That’s why the government is looking at what can be done with the 500Mhz spectrum, currently used for less efficient purposes.
Of course, auctioning that spectrum would also bring tens of Billions of dollars…
