Virgin Mobile launches MiFi 2200

We talked about Virgin Mobile rolling out the MiFi 2200 device recently, and D-Day is here. This is the first product of such kind to be offered by Virgin Mobile, where you can have up to five Wi-Fi devices hooked up to it, all of them gaining access to Virgin’s 3G network simultaneously. Apart from that, it holds the distinction of being the first US-based prepaid plan available for the pocket router. Don’t worry about security, as the MiFi 2200 has most of the bases covered with WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WEP and SPI firewall security, alongside a VPN feature for those who want to gain remote work access. Currently, its battery is rated at four hours of operation, although we’re sure actual usage would see a slight drop from the quoted figure. Best Buy and RadioShack stores have priced the MiFi 2200 at $150. Virgin’s plans for the MiFi 2200 range from $10 for 100MB for up to 10 days and $20 to $60 for 30 days, with the $60 plan offering 5GB of data. You can check this out if you’re a casual Internet user and want to share the costs with your bunch of friends at home, as it is not conducive for streaming and hardcore downloading. [Product Page]
