Could Apple secretly be admiring the Palm Touchstone charger from afar? While the fruity company isn’t offering any inductive charging accessories anytime soon, it has filed for a patent for a multi-orientation dock that supports inductive charging. Currently when we dock our iPhone, the device will have to remain in a portrait position, as the iPhone’s connector is at the bottom. With inductive charging, Apple could allow users to easily dock their iPhone (or any supported device) in either a landscape or portrait mode, without having to worry about the connector. Another benefit of this design is that there are no contacts to wear out or oxidize.
