Toshiba’s Marketing Director, Mark Whittard, made a rather interesting announcement at a press event in Australia. According to him, the company is busy working on a touchscreen tablet, dubbed the Toshiba SmartPad. It wasn’t mentioned what operating system would be powering the device, but a smart bet would be Google’s Android OS, or Microsoft’s Windows 7. Details weren’t delved into during the event, but the prototype device did offer HDMI and USB ports, and will apparently sport a digitizer and multi-touch ability. If everything goes according to plan, the SmartPad is slated to be launched in September/October, which isn’t all that far away.
