Vislab develops vehicle that can drive itself

A team over at Vislab have come up with a vehicle that is touted to drive itself, running on nothing else but electric power, covering up to 60 miles daily with an average speed of 40mph. This vehicle needs to be juiced up overnight though, but will be able to receive a boost throughout the day thanks to a built-in solar panel on the roof which will gather enough energy to run its array of control systems that include laser scanners, cameras and GPS navigation units. Of course, a convoy of these vehicles will be created with the lead van being driven by a human, while the rest behind are autonomously driven. Needless to say, a couple of folks with adequate intestinal fortitude will be in the back seats of the automated vans just in case something goes awry and they can take over from there. This unique entourage will be making its way to China later this year.
