XALOC helps you find parking lots

Go to popular shopping malls during the weekends and chances are you will spend the first 15 minutes looking for a parking lot. XALOC is a new system which could change such a scenario, where researchers from Spain’s Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) managed to come up with a new system which is capable of detecting free parking spots, followed by guiding drivers to the closest ones thanks to a system touted to be superior to GPS. This is made possible only with a huge capital outlay, since existing parking spots will need to have a wireless sensor installed on the ground in the middle of the space to tell whether it is occupied or not. All data will be sent to a central data station over the Internet, where subsequent information is processed and transferred to display panels on the streets.
